Government Introduces Online Learning for Kashmir's Degree Colleges Amidst Winter Challenges

Srinagar: Responding to the early winter conditions in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department has declared the commencement of online classes for all government degree colleges in the region starting from December 1, 2023.

In a communication relayed by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dr. Ravi Shanker Sharma, Special Secretary to the government, highlighted the difficulties students face in commuting to colleges due to the harsh winter weather and insufficient heating arrangements, leading to disruptions in regular classwork.

The communication emphasized that the situation is exacerbated by the challenges students face in traveling long distances or finding suitable accommodation in hostels or private residences, particularly given the early onset of severe winter conditions.

To ensure a smooth academic delivery despite the adverse weather conditions, all Principals of Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir Division have been instructed to conduct classes online from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023, or until winter vacations are officially announced—whichever comes first.
